UAE GOLDEN VISA · RENEWAL GUIDE
Yes, UAE Golden Residency can be renewed. Your renewal must meet the conditions of your residence category, with the required documents and residence formalities completed through the relevant immigration channel.
Already hold a Golden Visa? Understand when to prepare, what documents to update, how Dubai and federal renewals work, and what happens if your residence has expired.
Yes. UAE Golden Residency is renewable when the holder continues to meet the applicable conditions. You may need to update your identity documents, provide category-specific evidence, complete medical fitness or insurance steps, renew your Emirates ID and settle the applicable renewal charges.
Renewable does not mean every file is extended without action. Review your actual residence expiry and renewal requirements before the permit expires. Your issued residency record—not a general website example—shows your valid dates.
Start reviewing your file one to two months before the expiry date. This is a practical preparation window, not a mandatory government filing deadline. It provides time to obtain updated documents, book any medical checks and coordinate dependent renewals.
First confirm the expiry of your residence permit and Emirates ID. A Golden Visa holder who has spent an extended period outside the UAE should also check that the permit is still valid before arranging renewal.
Our Golden Visa Validity guide explains expiry dates and travel rules in more detail.
The main condition is continuing to satisfy the basis on which the Golden Residence was granted. Your exact document requirements depend on the issuing authority and residency category.
Ensure your passport details, existing residence record, Emirates ID and contact information are current and consistent.
Maintain the qualifying investment, employment, entrepreneurial activity, educational evidence or nomination required for your category.
Complete medical fitness screening where required and provide health insurance documentation applicable to your category or emirate.
Submit the renewal through the correct channel, complete applicable Emirates ID steps, and pay the required processing charges.
Prepare the core identification documents first. Then gather the evidence for your original eligibility route.
Don't submit every example on this list unless relevant to your case. For category eligibility details, see our Golden Visa Requirements guide.
Renewal follows the residence file's issuing authority. Dubai Golden Residency files use GDRFA Dubai routes; federal files are handled through ICP services.
Check the residence record, category and issuing emirate.
Identify the documents needed to continue under the existing category.
Update identification, supporting evidence, insurance and other required records.
Complete the relevant ICP or GDRFA renewal procedure and applicable payments.
Finish medical / Emirates ID steps where required and confirm the new expiry date.
Dubai's Golden Residency renewal services provide online and service-centre options for different residency categories. The specific category controls what evidence must accompany your renewal.
ICP renewal services handle applicable federal residence files. Current residence eligibility conditions, passport validity and category evidence remain important.
For new applicants rather than existing Golden Visa holders, see the separate Golden Visa Application guide.
Golden Visa renewal documents are not identical for every category. The examples below show what usually needs to be checked before submission.
Confirm that your property records continue to support the applicable Golden Residency investment route, including qualifying ownership and valuation evidence.
Review qualifying employment, occupation level, education and salary evidence. For standard Dubai Skilled Professionals cases, the applicable basic-salary assessment is important.
Business and nomination-based holders should review continued activity, category approval and any required letter or renewed recommendation.
Dubai has a specific renewal service for outstanding students and graduates. Its documents and eligibility checks are category-specific, so do not assume the first-time graduation deadline is assessed the same way for every renewal.
Applicants aged 18 and above generally need medical fitness screening for residence issuance or renewal. Complete the test through an approved UAE screening service where required.
Medical Test guide →Check the Emirates ID expiry and complete the ID-related steps associated with your renewed residence record. Residence renewal and ID processing are connected but not identical steps.
Keep required UAE medical insurance documentation active for your category and sponsored family members, especially where insurance is a condition of residence issuance.
Health Insurance guide →There is no single renewal price that applies to every Golden Visa holder. Charges depend on the type of residence, issuing emirate, duration, Emirates ID, medical fitness requirements and whether family members need separate renewals.
The first-time application packages on our Golden Visa Cost page are not automatically renewal quotations. Golden Portal UAE reviews an existing holder's category and scope before confirming a renewal service price.
Request a quote based on the number of applicants, residency category, current visa expiry and any document preparation requirements.
Some Dubai Golden Residency renewal services publish an expected completion time of around 48 hours for a complete service request. That is an indicative service time—not a promise for every case, and it does not necessarily include obtaining missing documents or medical appointments.
Expired passports, missing investment or salary proof, outdated nominations, unresolved insurance or medical requirements, mismatched records and separate dependent applications can add time. Preparing your file early is more reliable than relying on an urgent submission.
The UAE's federal residence-renewal service provides a 180-day grace period after expiry or cancellation for Golden Residence holders and their family members. This period allows eligible people to regularise their status; it is not an extension of an expired residence permit.
Renewal should still be arranged before expiry. After the applicable grace period, overstay fines and other immigration consequences can apply.
For more on active residence, travel and expiry rules, read UAE Golden Visa Validity.
Eligible family members may continue to hold residence permits under Golden Residency sponsorship. Their documents and expiry dates must be checked separately, and the dependent's residence validity cannot exceed the sponsor's valid residence period.
Review passports, marriage or birth documentation where applicable, medical checks for adult dependents, insurance and Emirates ID requirements. Family renewal may involve separate application charges per dependent.
Read Family Sponsorship requirements →Yes. Golden Residency is renewable when the applicable conditions of the issued category are met and the residence-renewal formalities are completed.
Golden Residency is described as renewable, but this does not remove the need to check expiry, keep qualifying conditions valid and complete any required documentation, Emirates ID, medical or fee steps.
Review your expiry and documents one to two months beforehand as a practical planning measure. The date to follow is the expiry shown in your residence record.
Renewal requires a valid residence record and continued compliance with the relevant residency conditions. The exact supporting evidence depends on whether your category is professional, investor, entrepreneur, student or nomination-based.
For salary-based Skilled Professionals holders, qualifying employment and salary evidence can remain relevant. In Dubai, our standard-route screening uses the applicable AED 30,000 basic-salary criterion, alongside other conditions. Your renewal file must satisfy the requirements applied to its category.
Property ownership is relevant to the property-investor Golden Visa route. A sale may affect whether that category continues to qualify. Review your current qualifying investment and residence status before proceeding; do not assume renewal remains available under the same category.
Dubai-issued Golden Residence permits are renewed through the relevant GDRFA Dubai service for the category. Prepare your identity documents, category evidence and required supporting records before submission.
For federal-issued residence files, use the applicable ICP residence-renewal process and provide the documents and information specified for your Golden Residency category.
Common items include a valid passport, current residence permit information, Emirates ID and category-specific proof. Medical fitness, insurance and a recent photograph may also be required.
Adult applicants generally complete medical fitness requirements for issuing or renewing UAE residence permits. The exact screening and timing depend on the applicable residence service and applicant circumstances.
Federal residence-renewal guidance provides 180 days after expiry or cancellation for Golden Residence holders and their family members. Do not treat this as extra visa validity; arrange renewal before expiry.
There is no universal total. The category, emirate, residence and Emirates ID processing, medical screening and number of dependents affect costs. Golden Portal UAE can provide a quotation for its renewal assistance after reviewing your case.
We help existing Golden Visa holders understand the renewal route, organise required documentation and coordinate the relevant application steps. Enquire for an individual renewal-service quotation.
